Utah

One of the highlights of the kids' summer is going to Utah to visit grandparents. My parents are in Africa, but we were still able to see all of my siblings at my niece's 3rd birthday party and were even in town for my grandparents' annual BBQ with all my cousins and their kids.

Like usual, I was not the best picture taker on this vacation. We did a beautiful hike our first morning and, with all the kids, hiked two hours up the mountain. This wasn't an easy hike because the trail was rocky and had a steep incline. Ian loved hiking but spent most of the time on either Daron's or my shoulders. We were trying to get to a Lake Blanche but never did make it. After two hours up, we decided we better turn around and it only took an hour to get down. The kids did such a great job on this hard hike! I was so proud of them! We did an easier hike a couple of days later and ended up at a pretty waterfall.

While we were there, Daron's mom had a guy come whose job it is to show reptiles at schools and other events. We saw some pretty amazing animals! Ian actually rode on this turtle as he walked around on the grass.
Maryn was very brave holding this huge albino snake with grandpa

This snake was so huge we all had to hold him.

Another fun tradition we have is going to Lagoon with Daron's parents and our cousins each summer. We set a record this year by staying from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Maryn, Luke and Gabe all went on the ride Wicked and loved it! Luke went on it 18 times. Here's a picture of this wicked ride!

We also went to the Bingham Copper Mine, one of only two man made structures that can be seen from space (the other is the Great Wall of China). The tires on the dump trucks are so huge and each tire costs $20,000 and has to be replaced every 9 months. There are six tires on each truck and the copper mine has 250 trucks. Crazy!

We were in town for the 24th of July which is a huge celebration in Utah. The kids loved the fire works and had fun putting on all the glow sticks that grandma bought.

We also spent lots of time at the pool, went and saw Despicable Me which was soooo funny, and the kids spent hours playing with Legos.

Daron, being the trooper that he is, drove home to Boise with the four kids sans mom. I stayed down there to spend the next week at the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City that Daron's mom treats the girls to each year.

We had such a good time. It's hard to believe school starts in a week!
