The Park
We took Subway to the park tonight and let the kids run around in the beautiful weather. On the way home we got Slurpees. The kids then took baths and went to bed. Another fun weekend! Just two weeks of school left and it's summer! We can hardly wait.
Luke is Citizen of the Week
Luke was awarded Citizen of the Week at school. His teacher wrote, "We've enjoyed Luke's fun personality from the very first day. He gives 110% whether at work or at play. You can trust him to make good choices and never lead you astray. His willingness to do what's right is a wonderful display. We can't help but love this boy and his desire to obey. He's truly one in a million, and that's no cliche." Luke was very proud of his award.
Maryn gets her ears pierced.
Maryn decided she was ready to get her ears pierced. She had thought about it for a while but didn't want it to hurt. She finally decided the pain would be worth it. She was very brave and they look so cute. She has been very good about taking care of them.

Memorial Day
We had a great weekend. Last Memorial Day we went camping with two other families which was fun, but it was nice to just hang out at home this year. I worked in the yard all day Friday. I got my pots and hanging baskets planted a couple of weeks ago, but this year I've been trying to replace some plants that died in the front yard and plant some new plants in the back. I planted nine flowering carpet rose bushes in the back and three hydrangeas in the front. On Friday night Daron and I went to see Star Trek which is an awesome movie, even if you don't like Star Trek. We both commented on how it was one of the best movies we've seen in a long time. It's one of those movies that feels like it lasted 30 minutes even though it was two hours, and you feel like you want to sit another hour. We then went and got gelato.
Daron and I put Ian and Gabe to bed before we left for the movie, and then Maryn and Luke put themselves to bed at 9:00. The first time we did this we wondered if they'd really go to sleep without a babysitter but told them we'd give them the chance to earn some money and show us we could trust them. Well, we got home and they were sound asleep. The problem was, Maryn had been a bit nervous and locked the door going from the garage into the house. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but I didn't have a house key on my key chain since I can always use the garage code to get into the garage and I never lock the door going into the house. We tried every door and window and everything was locked. Daron called the house from his cell phone four times but they never answered. He then went and yelled outside Luke's window and banged on it, but Luke was out cold. We didn't dare do anything outside Maryn's window since she often goes to bed with the fear someone's going to come in her window. Finally, I told Daron I thought the window to the bonus room over the garage might be unlocked. He had to get out the ladder, climb on the roof, and slither through the window. It was pretty funny, but we were proud of the kids for doing what they had been told. I was smart enough to get a house key on my key chain that night.
On Saturday we did more yard work. I have three garden boxes where so far I've planted peas, carrots and strawberries. This year I'm going to try the Topsy Turvy tomato planters where you hang your tomatoes upside down instead of planing them in the ground. This will give me more garden space. Daron did a great job designing a stand that would support my tomatoes and he and the boys had fun building it. On Sat. night Luke went to a friend's birthday party and Maryn went to Olive Garden with some friends and their mom.
Today, I took the older three kids to see Monsters vs. Aliens which they enjoyed. Daron and Ian stayed home and hung out. Then Gabe had a friend over and Luke went to a friend's house for the afternoon while Maryn and I went shopping. She got some cute summer clothes. I love shopping with Maryn. She is so thankful for everything she gets, and she makes such an effort to pick out modest clothing and swimsuits. I've never had to tell her I think something is inappropriate because she will decide herself that a pair of shorts is too short or will make the decision herself to buy a T-shirt to go under the shirt with spaghetti straps. I'm so proud of her and the young woman she is becoming.
We then came home and grilled hamburgers and corn on the cob. We love corn on the cob grilled with olive oil and salt and pepper. Maryn made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies all by herself for dessert and we had them warm out of the oven. There is nothing I love more than being at home with my husband and kids. I'd rather be there than anywhere in the world and feel so much peace and love when we're together. We are very blessed.

Preschool Graduation
But not really. Gabe still has one more year of preschool although most of the kids in his class will be going on to kindergarten in the fall. Gabe is a Sept. birthday so he barely misses the cut off and will be one of the oldest kids in his grade. He thoroughly enjoyed preschool and will be attending the same one in the fall. His teachers adore him and say he is so much fun and a favorite among the kids. He learned to right his name, letter sounds, how many syllables are in words, and even how to spell some words. He is one smart boy!

Brothers
Now that Ian is getting older, he and Gabe are having lots of fun together while Maryn and Luke are at school. One of their favorite things to do is watch the washing machine spin round and round. Ian is still a climber and his newest source of entertainment is spinning himself around on the Lazy Susan on our kitchen table.
Easter
Every year at Easter we dye 5 dozen Easter eggs. The next morning the kids each have a riddle written by the Easter bunny that tells them where to find their Easter baskets. Daron is the writer, and I'm always amazed at how quickly he comes up with these clever riddles. The really have to think to figure out where their baskets are, and once they do they start hunting for Easter eggs.
