Growing Up

Ian is really growing up. He sleeps in a bed and no longer sits in a high chair. He insists on eating at the table like the rest of the family, even if he makes a big mess. We are going to try potty training next month, but for now I'm still content to change diapers. He says some pretty funny things. The other night at dinner the kids were complaining because I made something a little too gourmet for their tastes. So I gave them a 30 second lecture on why it's rude to complain about the fabulous meal I made and they should be grateful I cook for them. Then Daron told them to start eating. He looked over at Ian and said, "Ian, eat your dinner." With all seriousness Ian said, "No dad. It will make me sick." We burst out laughing. I don't know where he got that, but it was a better excuse than any the other kids had that night.

I went strawberry crazy last week. Costco had the best strawberries for so cheap that I bought way too many. We made 29 pints of strawberry jam, three strawberry pies, froze 4 gallon size Ziplocs full of them, and ate 8 pounds of strawberries right out of the carton. Here is Gabe with the biggest strawberry we found.

Daron and I went with Maryn to her Activity Day Recognition Night. We left Luke and his friend in charge of the boys since the church is 30 seconds away and we were only going to be gone an hour. The younger two must have been very tired that day because when we got home at 8:30, this is what we found:

I found the only way to get Ian to nap is to put him in the car and drive around for 15 minutes. We listen to the same Primary CD and it soothes him right to sleep. I can bring him home and stick him in bed and he'll sleep for two hours. I can't believe I have to do this to get him to take a nap, but if I just stick him in bed he will NOT fall asleep. For a while he didn't seem to need the nap, but lately he gets way too tired by late afternoon if he hasn't taken one. So I trick him into napping for me.
