My mom and dad called a couple of weeks ago and said they'd like to come up and visit and offered to babysit on Valentine's night. We love it when grandparents visit, and free babysitting was just an added bonus. They arrived Friday and that afternoon Daron and my dad took Maryn, Luke, Gabe and some neighborhood kids over to the church to play basketball. They played for hours and when they left the church my neighbor said my dad looked hilarious with his hair all messed up and his glasses askew. Apparently it was a close game with the kids winning by one basket.
On Saturday we did our customary special Valentine's breakfast. The kids had a card and some treats next to their plates like my mom always did for us growing up. It was fun to have my parents there and be able to put treats next to their plates as well.. We had pink French Breakfast Puffs baked in heart shaped muffin tins. If you don't know what these are, they are delicious muffins that you dip into melted butter and then cinnamon and sugar - very low fat:). We also had little smokies and a fruit salad. We then went to Luke's basketball game; there are few things more entertaining than watching 2nd and 3rd graders play basketball. They don't officially keep score, but most of the kids and parent's keep it in their heads, and Luke is proud to say they are undefeated. After that we went to the rec center where the kids showed grandma and grandpa how they can climb all the way to the top of the rock wall.
Daron had planned Valentine's so I didn't know what we were doing. At 3:30 he told me I had a massage scheduled at 4:00! The massage felt great and made me so relaxed I could have slept for hours. We then went to one of my favorite restaurants called Brick Bistro 29 which has the most amazing tomato bisque soup in the world. I had been craving it for weeks so it was a nice surprise to find we were eating there. We then went and saw a movie - all while my parents played with the kids and put them to bed. What a pleasant surprise to come home to a clean house and kitchen, unlike many of our babysitting experiences.
Like usual, I forgot to take pictures of the kids with my parents, but here are some pictures I took of the kids the day my parents left. We thought it'd be fun to see if we could somehow superimpose my parents onto these pictures so if it works I'll post them.
